Nuclear Glass Blocks

Individual blocks can weigh in excess of 4000 kgs and are some of the largest pieces of glass produced worldwide, enabling a wide range of applications in its finished form.

Corning glass is manufactured to precise optical quality standards, ensuring high transmission and minimal number of inclusions.

A full range of compositions and sizes up to 1600 x 1400 x 400 mm, are available, providing window-design flexibility.

The production of nuclear radiation protection glass is strictly controlled and manufactured in accordance with the Quality Standard IS 9001, the Environmental Standard ISO 14001 and the Health & Safety Standard OHSAS 18001.

Manufactured raw blocks are supplied to Sovis Optique, who cut and polish to customer specific sizes. Sovis can also fabricate into finished window assemblies, if required. The finished blocks are also used for glove box and nuclear medicine applications.

Note

The barium and lead content makes Corning glass blocks susceptible to staining by acids and alkalis after polishing. We recommend this glass not be used or stored in conditions that will result in exposure to acid gases or excessive humidity. This page gives a general description of the product and materials.
